The truth is a Carrara marble sculpture by Gian Lorenzo Bernini sculpted between 1646 and 1652.
The work was sculpted during one of the artist’s darkest periods.
In fact, after 1644, with the election of Pope Innocent X, not only was the project of the 2 bell towers on the side of St. Peter’s basilica discarded, but Francesco Borromini was preferred as the architect.
Here Bernini began the work that should have meant the artist’s redemption in the face of the injustice he suffered, and the collapse of his reputation.
